The model BMW X6 is a mid-size luxury Sports Activity Coupe from the house of BMW, which was put up for sale in the later quarter of the year 2008. It mixes the SUV's attributes with the stance of the Coupe models. It was also the debut SUV of BMW, which is the only SUV employed with an automatic transmission. It is manufactured in the latest manufacturing plant of BMW, which is in Spartanburg of South Carolina along with the model of BMW X5, which shares the platform with the X6.

It is a modified model of a SAV by BMW and is slight wider and longer than BMW X5. It has a passenger capacity of four people. The concept model was launched at the Frankfurt Auto Show in the year 2007 for the first time. Officially, the production of the model BMW X6 was started at the North American Auto Show in the year 2008 held at Detroit. A hybrid version of BMW X6, named as the BMW concept X6 Active Hybrid will be the debuted. Later in the month of April of the year 2009, the sporty X6 M version was announced, which has power of 555hp, thanks to the 4.4 liter turbocharged V8.

At the starting, BMW X6 was launched in North America in two different variants. Both of these were equipped with the twin turbocharged engines. While all the BMW SUVs are relatively larger in size, the new X1 and X6 are smaller in size in comparison to X5.
